‘Defying Gravity’ in Brea this weekend

wickedThis Saturday and Sunday, Feb 23-24, you can catch “Defying Gravity” at the Brea Curtis Theatre.

Stephen Schwartz composed the extremely popular music for shows such as “Wicked,” “Pippin” and “The Baker’s Wife.” Now his closest friends, Debbie Gravitte and Scott Coulter, have joined together in showcasing Schwartz’s memorable pieces in one full-length musical experience. You can catch Schwartz’s shows on Broadway, but you’ll only see this one at the Curtis.

Saturday’s show is at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday’s is at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $22 to $28. The theatre is pretty small, so purchase your tickets online now!

Saturday: A Tribute to Journey at OC Pavilion

PerrySaturday, Feb. 16 you can see Evolution: A Tribute to Journey at the OC Pavilion in Santa Ana. The classic ’80s hits from Journey have been carried through friends and family for more than 10 years and they’re not slowing down even a little bit now.

This musical extravaganza will be performed by the best Journey tribute bands, Escape and Infinity with lead vocals done by Dave Alcantar.

The show begins at 8 p.m. in the beautifully reconstructed OC Pavilion. Tickets are $25 or $30. You can purchase them at the online box office.

Evolution has been said to warm the hearts of all who see it.

Dark comedy of “Assassins” in Anaheim

assassinsFrom now until March 16 you can have a killer time seeing Stephen Sondheim’s “Assassins” at The Chance Theatre. This musical highlights the lives and loves of nine presidential assassins with a dark comic twist. Don’t miss the Tony Award-winning show, directed by Oanh Nguyen.

Show times are Fridays 8 p.m., Saturdays 2 and 8 p.m., and Sunday is 2 p.m. General admission is $30 with students, seniors and military officers $27. You can purchase tickets online or by calling the box office at 714-777-3033 between 10 a.m. and noon Monday through Friday.

It should be noted that this performance contains adult language and is meant for a mature audience.

Bob Marley Tribute Concert on Friday!

groundationThis Friday, Feb 8, check out the Bob Marley Tribute Concert at the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana. Feel the love with reggae guest artists Groundation, Will Barnard and G. Tonic.

Sip your Comedy Juice at the Improv!

juiceOne of the most popular comedy shows in America will now be performed at the Brea Improv. Comedy Juice has been called “The best stand-up show in the country” by Sirius Satellite Radio. And the best part is that the show is at the Brea Improv every Tuesday, with different stand-up acts each week.

The show starts at 8 p.m. Tuesdays (no shows on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day) and tickets are $12 each. That’s only $12 to see famous comedians you know from TV. Regular stand-ups include Jeffery Ross, Chris Porter, Ty Barnett and Skyler Stone.

Radio City Rockettes are coming to OC!

RockettesThe world-famous Radio City Rockettes will perform their Christmas Spectacular at the Segerstrom Hall in Costa Mesa Dec. 13 through 30.

Traveling all the way from New York, the leggy troupe will perform the famous dance moves and serve up sparkling Christmas spirit as if they were home in Times Square.

The Rockettes have been performing for more than three-quarters of a century and are a family favorite, especially when it’s time for the yearly Christmas show. This performance in Orange County will have colorful and elaborate sets, Santa Claus and, of course, the high-legged kicks we all love so much.

Urban atmosphere at the Santa Fe Cafe

Teens at Santa FeLooking for something different to do on a weekend night? Check out the Santa Fe Express Café in Downtown Fullerton. It’s a super urban hangout for young adults that’s free and guaranteed to be busy.

Every Thursday through Sunday there are live bands playing and always yummy food for purchase. On any Friday night you can find crowds of people huddled around the Santa Fe courtyard. The old structure hidden in Downtown next to the train makes for great atmosphere. Plus there’s a mini mart with food for people on the go, an arcade, hookahs, and also board games.

Don’t forget the sunscreen! Day baseball games can be scorchers.

If you’re going to a day game at Angels Stadium be prepared for the heat. Sure, I knew it wasn’t cool, but for some reason I still leave for the game in jeans and forget to lather on sunscreen. Big mistake. The Angels came away with a 12-7 victory and I came away with a scorching sunburn.
