From now until March 15 you can experience José Casas “14” in Santa Ana. This tragic play, told in monologues, shows the story of 14 Mexican immigrants who died in the sweltering Arizona desert whilst crossing the border in May 2001. It has been called “Best Original Play” by the ARIZONIA and won the Theatre Award of Excellence in 03-04.
Casas wrote this play based upon many interviews he gave. It is said to investigate the complex relationship between Mexicans, Chicanos and Anglos who reside in Arizona. This play isn’t about who’s good and who’s bad but the gray area that we must accept in between the two.
“14” shows on Fridays and Saturday at 8 p.m. You can also catch a Sunday matinee at
3 p.m. on March 2 and 9. General admission is $15 with students and seniors at $10. Remember to bring a valid I.D.
